Do you find yourself hiding your smile due to crooked or misaligned teeth? When your teeth cause you to lose confidence, it’s time to visit a dentist for braces in Union. Orthodontic options like braces are an effective treatment choice for crowded, uneven or otherwise misaligned teeth. With orthodontic treatment, your teeth are slowly moved into place or the underlying bone is adjusted to give you the straight teeth you’ve been missing.

We believe that everyone should feel confident in their smile — contact our office today to learn what a skilled dentist can do for you.

How Do You Get Braces?

Seeing a skilled braces dentist is the best way to get started when considering orthodontics. If you’re interested in straightening your teeth, it’s important to find a nearby dentist who will listen to your concerns and walk you through each step of the process. At our practice, we’re committed to helping every patient feel comfortable when considering orthodontics. Your personalized care plan will address any crowding, spacing or other alignment issues you have as quickly as possible.

What Is the Braces Process Like?

Whether you choose metal braces, ceramic braces or the invisible variety, the process for adhering them is the same. First, your dentist will clean and dry your teeth to prepare them for the bonding glue. This substance is applied to your teeth so brackets can be attached. Many of our patients find that the glue tastes unpleasant, but it is not dangerous. During the final step, the dentist will affix the archwires to the brackets and add elastic bands to secure them. After the braces are applied, you’ll come back to the office about once a month to have the braces adjusted, and if needed, the elastic bands changed.

Are There Different Options for Braces?

We understand that every patient is different — that’s why we offer multiple types of braces in Union to meet your needs. While most patients choose the traditional metal bracket-and-wire variety, ceramic can be another option for those wanting to straighten teeth more discreetly. The ceramic type is shaped identically to the metal style but contain tooth-colored fixtures. Typically, ceramic-style braces blend seamlessly with your smile.

Another popular style, called invisible braces, involve clear plastic trays that fit over your teeth. These trays gradually move your teeth into the desired position. Many of our patients enjoy using the invisible option because they can be removed while eating or drinking, and they are unnoticeable when worn.

During your consultation at our dental office, your dentist will explain your options and help you decide which treatment is best for you. You can achieve the smile you’ve always wanted — contact us now to book an appointment.

Can I Afford Braces?

We understand that correcting your smile with orthodontics can be a significant financial decision. In fact, one of the questions we hear often from our patients is, “How much do braces cost?”

Every orthodontic patient faces different challenges; because of this, the cost of treatment varies. Your location, the complexity of your crowding or spacing issues and whether your insurance plan covers orthodontics will determine your out-of-pocket costs. We recommend talking to your insurance provider when considering getting braces. It’s also helpful to give our office a call, our team members are here to assist. In many cases, flexible financing allows patients to receive affordable orthodontics. These convenient plans allow patients to pay off their dental costs over monthly installments.

Will Getting Braces Take a Long Time?

The entire process for getting braces normally takes one to two hours. Most patients report experiencing mild soreness after the brackets and wires are put in place, which is normal. In about a week, the discomfort should subside. If you’re experiencing extreme discomfort after the procedure that isn’t resolved with over-the-counter pain medicine, contact our office.

Straightening your teeth typically takes one to two years, depending on the misalignment of your teeth. Those with advanced cases may take longer. Schedule an appointment with our dental office today to learn more about your options.

Will I Need a Retainer After Braces?

Getting your orthodontic device removed is a painless process and usually takes about one hour. To remove the appliance, dentists use special tools to separate the brackets from the tooth. Then, the wires are snipped and the bracket and brace come off. You’ll then be able to start enjoying your new smile!

Most patients will require a retainer to ensure their new smile stays aligned for years to come. These appliances are custom-fitted to your teeth and are often worn overnight. A retainer may need to be worn for several years to ensure your teeth remain in the proper position. Give us a call if you have any questions about the retainers or the after-treatment process.
